A Tale of Two Kitties

A Mom's Choice Awards winner in 2025, this adorable bedtime story starts with a boy who lives near the woods with his mom and two cats. One day, one of their cats runs off to the woods.

'The mom felt so bad' that 'her son was so sad'!

So the family searches through the woods for the missing cat. What they find in the woods is a lovely surprise that would change their lives forever.

Excellent Book

I enjoyed reading this to my 4 year old...she really liked the description and names of the various kitties! My 9 year old said she loved that finally they became a large family. I think it helps kids to relate to the ideas of kindness and inclusiveness and of course, use their imagination. The language is very kid friendly, and the illustrations are beautiful! Will definitely recommend for the 4-9 age group!

Therapist, Educator, and Clinical Supervisor

As a mother of a teenager, a mental health professional, clinical supervisor, and educator, I applaud Mary Pawpins for addressing such an essential topic for today’s children. In both my personal life and my clinical work with adults, I often find myself teaching foundational skills that were never introduced early on—skills such as trusting one’s intuition, establishing healthy emotional and physical boundaries, and practicing assertiveness, including the understanding that it is both acceptable and respectful to say “no.”

Through the experiences of both Cutie and Fuzzy, this book offers parents, educators, mental health professionals, and school counselors a gentle yet impactful tool for initiating meaningful conversations with children. It provides an accessible framework for teaching lifelong skills that will support children’s emotional and physical well-being across all settings.

"Cutie Says No" thoughtfully addresses boundary setting and self-advocacy in a way parents can easily share with young children, affirming emotions, self-worth, and the importance of supportive guidance when navigating unkindness or bullying.

It’s a very cute and fun story with a good lesson for our children! I believe it helps shy children or children who are scared of saying no. Parents can help their child learn to help themselves with this simple story!

Having read this book with my child, I believe it helps children who might be scared of confrontation make the first steps when dealing with uncomfortable life experiences. It also teaches a simple but strong moral of protecting yourself and “saying no” to things you aren’t comfortable with.

Overall, if you have children yourselves, I highly recommend reading this with your child and help them through this simple but important lesson.
